"Ace" Rothstein is a mathematical genius. An oddsmaker for the Mafia in Chicago. He organizes 3 casinos in Vegas, bought with Teamster Pension fund money, keeping the money flowing home. But it is all too good to be true. Ace's first mistake is to take on as his minder an old friend, Nick, too big for his boots. He is running his own protection and assassination crew in town. His second mistake is to fall in love with Ginger McKenna, a good time girl. Ace has a marriage convenience. She stays with him and he protects her. These two loose cannons would be easy to handle but Ace oversteps the mark. His license is brought up for review, but he never got a license. No one did. Nick's activities now being investigated by the FBI are creeping ever more closely to Ace. Ginger takes up with Nicky. What started as a local problem is getting out of hand.
