Synopsis
Valley of Flowers is a Himalayan legend of a love struggling against the inevitability of death, an astonishing tale spanning from the early 19th century mountain existence, to hectic, bustling modern day Tokyo.
The Characters
Jalan - Milind Soman
The leader of a gang of Himalayan bandits. About 27 in age, with an impressive figure and long, black hair, he is distinctively handsome, his eyes disclosing a look of concentrated determination. His face is fierce yet calm, intense yet self-possessed. Jalan is the victim of social injustice and he bears the expression of one who has hardened in response. Beneath the hard shell, a fire can be discerned: the name Jalan means "the burning".
Ushna - Mylene Jampanoi
An incarnate demon, she has taken on the form of a mystifyingly beautiful woman of about 25. She has long wild, hair and a transfixing regard. She uses a lethally seductive body language compiled with penetrating looks and sensual gestures. Her voice is husky and her words mysterious. A seducer who learns to love, Ushna too must learn to put down her fierce exterior and reveal the woman within. Ushna means "the fire."
Suyuri (Ushna's reincarnation)
Elegant, graceful with a haunting voice. Suyuri is a Japanese singer, of about 25. Her face is full of life. Breathtakingly beautiful, her eyes are deeply sad with yearning. She longs for something, someone, but does not know where to look, or how to find him.
Yeti - Naseeruddin Shah
A man of gigantic proportions, he is a rough, wild-looking demon-hunter. He could very well be the tallest man on earth. A calm and intelligent man of about 55, his eyes are hidden within the folds of his weather-worn skin. When they are revealed, they carry an aura of spiritual silence.
Jampa-La - Jampa Kalsang Tamang
Jalan's childhood friend. A good-looking, sturdy man of about 30. His face is weather-beaten yet he wears an expression of dignity. He evidently takes pride in belonging to Jalan's gang.
Hak-Chi - Anil Yadav
Senior member of Jalan's gang, about 35. Close friend of Jampa-La and Jalan. His face menacing but wise.
Aghori - Baba Gopi Giri
A saint who possesses the powers of levitation. A worshipper of Shiva with long dreadlocks, his naked body covered solely with ash. Age unknown, for he has passed the ages alone in meditation in his high-altitude cave. He has learnt to master himself, eradicating all traces of self-regard, leaving his body free to defy the powers that bind other men.
Onpo - Jamayang Chodhak
An astrologer, of about 45, with a magical expression in his thin eyes. He is a man who reads people's future by reading their faces. He knows his clients better than they know themselves.
Atman - Baba Pancham Giri
A holy man who walks slowly, half-nude. His forehead painted with deep red his eyes bright and burning, whether he is good or evil cannot be discerned through his mesmerizing stare. His age is unknown, and irrelevant, for he is the Master of immortality who secretly manufactures elixir which contains the power to prolong life indefinitely.
